Topic to discuss Transition Streets in Berkhamsted

    October 7, 2014 at 8:45 am #1817

    From John Ingleby:

I’m thinking of organising a Transition Streets training event on 1st
November, somewhere near Kings Langley. It will be designed for local
groups thinking of running a Streets programme, to develop their plans
and get started, Winter is coming along and this is the time people
will see the benefits. GUCE have been working towards a programme
covering both Kings and Abbots Langley, but Chris Hopkins at TriCE and
Ian Hunter from Low Carbon Chilterns Co-op have expressed interest,
and a combined event would make sense (to me at any rate…)

Is this something TTB would be interested in sending 2 to 4 people
along to? If so, here’s the catch: the Totnes trainers charge for the
event, and while GUCE and RES can cover most of the cost we would
still be looking for up to £250 for say 3 people.

Can you let me know asap if the date would work for a group of people
    from Berkhamsted?

This isn’t something I would have the time to lead on right now but I really hope someone within TTB would want to get involved in finding out more. The funding we secured for Dacorum Environment Forum included some training for their members – I wonder if one of them might be interested in joining a TTB person and be able to use some of the funding towards that cost? I’m happy to ask if you think it’s a good idea.

That sounds like an excellent idea

Further invitation from TiK below. I am unable to attend as I’ll be returning from Anglesey.

“You and/or your colleagues are invited to the Transition Streets
Workshop on Saturday 1st November at Charter Court, Kings Langley from
    10:00am to 5:00pm.

The workshop is designed for local groups who wish to start a
Transition Streets programme this Winter, to develop plans and get
started with forming neighbourhood groups who will take part in the
programme. There is a maximum of 15 places, so I need to know who
would like to attend as soon as possible.

GUCE will bear the initial costs of the workshop, with the help of a
generous contribution from Renewable Energy Systems Ltd. We plan to
recover part of the costs by selling the Workbook for £10 each, and we
will also cover the trainers’ travel expenses and room hire. That
leaves £500 costs remaining, towards which we would welcome a
    contribution from your local group.

I am sending this to Transition groups in Abbots Langley, Tring and
Berkhamsted, as well as Low Carbon Chilterns Co-op. Please let me know
by Thursday 16th October a) how many places you would like to reserve
on the workshop and b) how much your local group can contribute
    towards the remaining costs.”

    And more:

Further to my email of 9th October, we now have 6 participants for the Transition Streets Workshop and the outstanding costs have reduced to £200 as a result of further contributions.

The Workshop is designed for anyone wishing to start a neighbourhood group to reduce their energy bills, water consumption, waste and travel costs, and eat more healthily. It will take all day up to 5pm on Saturday 1st November in Kings Langley.

Please let me know if you would like to reserve a place or places for anyone from your area, and a donation towards the outstanding costs will be greatly appreciated.
